Full ‘Snow Moon’ Altar, November 2012

The return of the hares. :) It seems unlikely that I will actually see the eclipse tonight, but there is snow, so it balances.

Mandala is simply quartz and moonstone (both feldspar and orthoclase).

I’ve been plowing through more unpacking today and thought I’d post some photos of my altar. It’s been living in boxes for the past year or so, and that’s caused me some anxiety, so it’s nice to finally have it set up again.

I don’t perform any magic, as I haven’t done my research toward what I’d like to make forays into. I sometimes play with energy, but don’t have much practice. The altar is simply a gathering of items that I feel a connection with, mostly stones and light. Having them arranged like this provides me with an anchor point for my own energy, and I believe that they gather and store some energy of their own when properly arranged, so that if I wear one of the worn items that sits on the altar, they’ve gained a slight connection to the anchor, and it calms me when I’m agitated or upset. I have a garnet chip necklace sitting on a bed of amethyst chips with a moonstone earring off to the side. Those are the items I usually put on if I’m feeling particularly out of whack.

My practice is very basic and minimal for now, but I like having this little set up. As I mentioned, it isn’t drawn from any other traditions, simply arranged how it feels best to me.

Edit: I should mention that I will in time replace the plastic fake candles with some real tea lights. I had to use these when I lived in a dorm, and haven’t really had the full set up since then. The plastic ones never disturbed the energy gathering of the set up, but they didn’t help it either.
